A Message From the Senior Pastor

At Heritage Church of God we try to be the church of your fondest memories.
The church where you dedicated your life to Christ, where you were baptized
and where you met your best friends. We allow the Spirit of God
to lead us into the good paths. We expect to have the abundant life.
When you take a close look at Heritage Church of God, you will see we have many activities,
but that is not what Heritage is about. The activities are just a by-product of a growing and active church.
We are not a copy. We are just what we are; a church doing its best to put God first in our lives and
allowing Him to build the church. Jesus is the corner stone and we build upon that rock.
We have no membership. We believe that a born again experience makes you a member.
If God accepts you, then it is our duty to accept you on His terms.
Heritage is a place to worship, serve, play and lean on in troubled times.
May God enrich you as you learn about His church.

God Bless, Dr. Robert L. Fry                          Heritage Church Of God

Dreams of finding an “old car in a barn” are a daily reality here.
Nestled on 90 landscaped acres in restored historic barns are over 200 extraordinary vehicles spanning more than 100 years of automotive heritage. Here you will find exhibits ranging from a 1899 Locomobile, to the classic Duesenberg or the elusive Tucker '48, and from the Model T to the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s.
The Gilmore Car Museum began in 1963 as the hobby of Donald S. Gilmore when his wife, Genevieve, gave him an antique car for his birthday —a 1920 Pierce-Arrow “project car.” With the help of some friends, the auto was placed under a tent and a full restoration followed.  The hobby soon grew into a collection of over 30 automobiles.   Mr. Gilmore purchased 90 acres of farm property and had several historic barns dismantled piece by piece and moved to the site. It was Mr. Gilmore’s wife who suggested the idea of turning the collection into a museum where future generations could enjoy the restored cars for years to come. The Gilmores established a non-profit foundation, and opened the museum to the public for the first time on Sunday, July 31, 1966. Donald Gilmore passed away in 1979, and Mrs. Gilmore in 1990, but the legacy they began continues to grow.

Children's Sunday School

The Reason Sunday School Is Important For Children

Written By: Sharon Day
Sunday School Teacher, Director

In these times of high unemployment, a failing government and economy, starvation and fear of the future it is hard enough for adults to deal with these problems of the day. Today children are much more aware of what goes on in the world and how it might affect them. Along with adult problems they also deal with their own problems in their neighborhoods, school and sometimes in homes. These problems could be a parent without a job, a bully in the neighborhood or a drug dealer at school. So you see children have many things that they deal with everyday just like the adults. Because of these day to day problems it is imperative that children know who they can depend on.
Many times I think children equate Jesus with a “super hero” cartoon character. The hero in cartoons always “saves the day” in times of trouble. Well Jesus can save the day but He is so much more. Children need a personal relationship with Jesus.  Oh sure, it won’t be as an adult relationship with Jesus. But Sunday School can be the beginning of learning how to start that relationship with Jesus. The children will learn who Jesus is, learn about His word, the Bible and that they can trust Him to take care of them and their needs. They can begin to build their faith in Jesus even at a young age.

In Proverbs 22:6 (NIV) in the Bible it says that we must “Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it”. We must “sow the seeds” now while they are young. Our children need to know the difference between cartoon hero’s and Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God!

The Bible also speaks about a time when Jesus was on earth and children were brought to Him to pray for them. The Disciples rebuked those that brought the children to Jesus. But Jesus said “Let the Children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these” Matt 19:13-14 (NIV). I think this applies to us today. Bring your children, grandchildren, neighborhood children, friend’s children and give them the opportunity to meet Jesus through His word and help build their faith in him. Oh by the way…their parents and older siblings would be welcome in the Adult and Teen Sunday School Classes. We will be looking for you in Sunday School.

EYE Health from Scott Siewert

BEYOND EYE HEALTH
How  Astaxanthin  Combats
Degenerative Disease

Written by: R. Scott Siewert, Health-Wellness, Director

Through my writing on our website I guess you have all have well established my strong support of vitamin supplements. I recently came across one that I never had heard about. Celebrity physician Dr. Oz touted a compound vital to preserving visual clearness in maturing individuals. He called it “The #1 Supplement you’ve never heard of that you should be taking.” The name of it is ASTAXANTHIN used for popular eye health.

While the naturally occurring astaxanthin may have finally attained mainstream, recognition for its crucial role in protecting aging eyes, scientist are discovering it possesses a broad spectrum, of properties that combat a multitude of diseases of the aging. It has long been shown to protect aging eyes from cataracts and glaucoma. More recent scientific finding indicates astaxanthin as an intervention for numerous forms of degenerative disease. These include cardiovascular disease, cancer, age related immune dysfunction, stomach and eye conditions, and skin damage.

Astaxanthin is safe in a wide range of doses. As little as 4-6 mg per day of astaxanthin has been shown to be effective support for eye health. Between 6-18mg for metabolic syndrome. As much as 40mg per day with no side effects. And web MD almost all the reviews for taking this supplement for general health & wellness, were rated four and five star satisfactory.

Men in the Heritage Kitchen in Pictures

Heritage Men at YOUR Rescue Planning a Party, Banquet,  Family Reunion, Special Dinners?

The kitchen crew is a group of men that meet every Wednesday at 10 AM to make up a grocery list, do the shopping, and then have lunch together. After lunch the group prepares the food for the evening meal. The group was started in the spring of  2002 with about three men that prepared cold cut’s and/or soup for about 25 to 35 people on Wednesday night. The group has grown to about 8 to 14 men that prepare a complete meal every Wednesday night for about 90 to 120 people. In addition to the Wednesday night meals, the group prepares funeral dinners, special dinners, and breakfast meals. Since the group’s inception, we estimate we have served 280 Wednesday night meals, 48 funeral dinners, 96 special dinners, and 24 breakfast meals. The special dinners include wedding receptions, dinner theater for the drama group, baby showers, anniversary dinners, luncheons for groups that are using the church facilities for a meeting, and even the concessions at the soft ball games. If you want it cooked, we probably can do it for you. Most of our meals we prepare and serve at the church but we have the equipment to serve the meal at a location outside of the church. We are a busy group as we serve about 64 meals a year.

The group is open to all the men of the church that like a good time and would like to provide a valuable service to the people of Heritage Church of God. We have absolutely no restrictions on who can join us. You do not even have to know how to cook. In fact, most of our guys had never cooked before, and yet, they fit right in with the group. You don’t have to be retired as we can use full or part time help. Not all of the men join us for the shopping and lunch as they prefer to come in sometime during the afternoon and assist in the cooking, setting up tables, or cleaning up afterwards. If anyone is interested in joining this group contact the Church office.
