                                                                                  BE INVOLVED

I can never imagine myself in a different place worshipping every Sunday morning.  I can never imagine myself sharing my wedding vows under a different roof.  I can never imagine raising any future children with a different church family.  I ask myself why I feel so strongly.

While growing up at Heritage Church of God, the foundation for who I am was built from the church family.  When I think of the church, the first thing that comes to mind is that I have always felt welcome.  There is an abundant amount of love within our church family that is immediately felt once you step inside the doors.  There is always someone around willing to chat, spread a smile, or even give a hug!  From music and sports to women’s groups and prayer teams, there are large amounts of activities for everyone to be included and serve the Lord in a way that they prefer.  With the amount of opportunities to be involved, it is hard not to feel included immediately.

There have been numerous times when I have brought new people and they have always been made to feel welcome with open arms and friendly smiles.  Friends are spoken to and encouraged to return and get involved.  Seeing the love and welcoming atmosphere the church provides has made me carry those traits in my daily life.  I find myself very open and welcoming to all the people I come across, as others made me feel the last twenty-three years of my life.

                                                                                   THE RIGHT FEELING

“I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you.  Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name—the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one.”  Jesus prayer in John 17:11

This prayer was in my heart from the time I accepted Christ as my Savior.

I felt like I was always searching.  I had attended many churches but when I came to Heritage Church of God there was a difference.  I cannot explain it, but it felt right.

I now know what that feeling was; it was a leading from God to be part of His church.  He led me as sure as He led the shepherd to the manger.  I have grown and my heart’s desire is to see others grow in the Lord and find the true purpose for their lives.  It is wonderful to be part of a real church knowing that God chooses the leadership and seeing people saved, grow and learn about our Lord Jesus Christ.

I am excited about where I am and am looking forward to all that God has in store for me.  I am thankful for this time of Jubilee so I can express how much each of you means to me.

                                                                        LOVING THE LORD

Here are some of the amazing things we like about Heritage Church of God.

The Pastor is a man who loves the Lord.  When you love the Lord as he does, he will teach and preach it to the congregation.

When you love the Lord as your savior, there is nothing left but to grow in the Lord.

                                                                               THIS CHURCH IS MY HERITAGE

Heritage Church of God is my heritage.  My grandparents, Clarence & Freda Alspaugh dedicated my mother to the Lord at Woodstock Church of God in March of 1922.  She grew up and was married in that church.  Mother and Dad taught children’s church all the time I was growing up with my 5 brothers and 4 sisters.  I was dedicated and baptized at North Cove Church of God.  Looking back it amazes me that they found time to serve the Lord while raising 10 children!  I really don’t remember too many Sundays when we weren’t in church.  When my own children were born, I dedicated and raised them in the Church of God as well.

I gave my heart to the Lord as a little girl.  As soon as I was old enough, I started working as a Sunday School Teacher’s Assistant.  At the time, we were required to be in Junior High School.  I have been working in some capacity in the Children’s Ministries at North Cove/Heritage Church of God ever since.  Currently, I am serving as the Sunday School teacher for children two and three years old.  I love children and consider it a privilege to care for them and pass on the heritage of God’s love.

While I was in Junior High School, our Music/Youth Minister led the fundraising activities that allowed us to purchase two octaves of hand bells and later we expanded it to four!  I loved playing hand bells then and I still do today!  Originally, our hand bells were rung by Junior and Senior High School age ringers.  Over the years our hand bells fell silent.  Occasionally, they would be brought out of the closet and rung only to fall silent again.  Several years ago I was asked to revive the hand bell choir and the Heritage Hand Bells have been ringing ever since!

God and the Church of God have been a constant in my life.  I thank the Lord for His Son and the Heritage Church of God.  There is no better place to be on a Sunday morning than in the house of the Lord worshipping, ringing and singing His praise!

                                                                                   RETURN TO HIM

“…I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist.  Return to me, for I have redeemed you…”   Isaiah 44:22

As we begin our Jubilee celebration, a time of redemption and forgiveness, this verse in Isaiah is so very special.  What a welcoming message of comfort, hope and mercy from a loving Father!

Satan is the Great Deceiver and there was a time in my life when Satan had convinced me that God’s forgiveness was not for me.  Our God is so merciful!  He led me to Heritage, as only He can, and to a Bible class wherein His Word, His love, and His TRUTH proved more powerful than Satan’s lies.  God allowed me to return to Him and my soul rejoices in His mercy.

It is by God’s grace that I serve as Director of Drama Ministry at Heritage Church of God.  It is my joy to find scripts that encourage those that know Christ to strengthen their relationship with Him while inviting those that don’t know Him to seek Him.

There is a special bond created between brothers and sisters in Christ – together we reinforce this bond when we study His Word, when we worship, when we encourage each other in times of need and when we work and play.  Each theatrical production has provided such an opportunity with those that serve onstage as well as those serving “behind the scenes.”  It is especially fulfilling as we search God’s Word, learning of His will in our lives while acquiring knowledge to interpret each script.

Led by their love for the Lord and serving with joy, our church family at Heritage has been a blessing in so many ways to so many people.  The Lord has blessed me by allowing me to return to Him and by placing me here to worship and serve with you, my most precious brothers and sisters in Christ.

So, let us celebrate Jubilee together and may our hearts be made glad with the knowledge that Christ, our Redeemer, lives and He has “…swept away (y)our offenses like a cloud….”

                                                                           I’M A “LIFER”

I had not attended church for a couple of years.  One day my wife came home and told me there was a new pastor at North Cove Boulevard Church and that I should go hear him.  That was about 25 years ago.

Hearing Pastor Bob speak over the years and guiding me has been a great reward.  Today I could not feel better attending Bible studies, singing in the men’s choir, and having the church picnic at the lake.

Being baptized really changed my life.  I am a “lifer” here at Heritage Church of God.
